The VACCHO Koori Maternity Strategy was established in 1999 funded by the Department of Human Services. Funding is allocated to enhance existing community based Aboriginal health services by providing additional and culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal women throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate postnatal period, by creating cooperative partnerships that enable the Aboriginal women of Victoria to access the best possible maternity care.
